Before I start this month I need to give a belated thank you to Mick Abrams and his wife Tina who for many years were the hard working Vice Chairman and Secretary of the Berkshire Committee. I am sorry you were overlooked in last months thank you to retiring Committee members.

County Championships results

Easter Sunday was a fantastic sunny day for the Berkshire Sporting County Championship which was held at Four Counties Clay Target Club.

Berkshire shooters were joined by visitors from as far a field as Jersey. Several shooters had never visited the ground before, and they all expressed their pleasure at shooting the clever layout that Brian Claridge had painstakingly put together.  Well done Brian...I know what ungodly hour you get up at on Sundays to put on the 14 stands, which were kept busy all day giving the shooters plenty of time to ‘size up’ the challenging targets and decide how they were going to shoot them or not as the case may have been. Furthermore many have said that they will be coming back to Four Counties for the next shoot because they enjoyed it so much.

The new Berkshire County Sporting Champion is Chris Childerhouse, who shot an impressive 90. Tess Elliott won the Ladies title with 66, beating rival Pam Tibbatts by 1 only clay.  The Junior County Champion was won by Tim Bovingdon with 81 and he took home one of the new trophies kindly sponsored by Kennedy's at Bisley.  Eric Davis took the Veterans Champion trophy with a score of 77. Well done Eric.

Tony Manvell was at it again.... he won AA class with a score of 88. Tony had only just got back from the Pan African Championships where he gave George Digweed a run for his money, shooting 100 straight during the middle of the Pan African. He eventually settled for the Silver medal. Well done Tony, good luck for the Europeans.

Last years B class winner Steve Hamblin won A Class on 79 and Pete Abel won B class way out in front with a score of 84.
Ken Harman, remember him.... did a 74 winning C Class and adding to his Supreme Champion bid.

The overall High Gun was taken by Richard Faulds with a score of 95. Pity you do not live in a proper County like ours Richard, you might just make our inter-county sporting team shooting like that. Don't suppose you fancy moving house eh?

Easter weekend also saw several Berkshire trap shooters travelling down to Newnham Park for the 2 day UT. This is always a great event with 200 targets shot over Saturday and Sunday. A great welcome is always given by Graham Lapthorn and the shoot is well worth the long journey.
No one could touch Kevin Gill who had a fantastic score of 198/200, however Berkshire had a good try....Keith Kilvington had a 25 straight and five 24's amongst his score to finish on 188. Carl Miles had a 25 straight  and finished on 185, Michael Vere-Hodge had a 25 straight and finished on 177/200, I had my first UT 25 straight and 93/100 on the second day (even with Jules Fairburn laughing at the side of me for most of the time) ending on 180/200 which was, as far as the ladies scores, 'no where near it' because Sally Broyd put in a fantastic 189, but at least I beat my husband Michael and that is all that counts. Chris Ricketts was showing off with two 25 straights to finish on 177 with his wife Karen ending one behind on 176....get him next time Karen!
If you have not been to this Easter shoot yet.......put it in your diary for next year...you won't regret it. The layouts are perfect, well built and a delight to shoot.

Sunday 15th of April was a glorious day for the Berkshire DTL Championships. Good job too as it became a bit of a marathon with 77 shooters of which 20 were from Berkshire.
Mick Abrams became the Berkshire Champion with a score of 290/300 and Malcolm Mason took the Veterans title with 279/300. I ended up with the Ladies title with 272/300 by default as no other ladies turned up. ....Ladies where are you?....it is no fun being the only one.
Again the junior cup and medals could not be presented because we did not have any juniors competing. Mums and dads....will you please bring your sons and daughters to compete lets not disappoint the sponsors who have kindly donated these cups.
AA class went to Carl Miles on 277, A class to Ken Harman on 288, B class to Peter Frazer on 289 and C class to Brian Rebbeck on 272.
A big thank you also goes to Sandie Buckler who stayed to present the prizes and welcome us warmly to the South East Region.

Right...I am keeping my fingers tightly crossed for the next two Berkshire Championships.....yes it is 'skeet time'...and I have been told that we have some good ladies as well as men....so come on girls, get your kit ready...its war.
Both Championship's are at the NCSC, the English Skeet is on the 27th of May and the Olympic Skeet (for those brave at heart) is on the 9th of June.

Now then Berkshire shooters.....can you read? I keep asking you to send me details of your shooting success and pictures taken at shoots, etc, etc, to go in this editorial and on the Berkshire website.....'how many have I had' you may ask?.....well I have to say that I feel like Phil Boakes waiting for his AGM target proxies to arrive because the answer is......very little. (sorry Phil)

So come on wake up and talk to me. If you can use a gun you can use a camera.....well, on second thoughts my husband can't.....but, get some information to me....please.....I do not know who you are....I came down from the 'frozen North' don't forget...and I am still getting to know you all.
Don't be shy...tell me when you have a win or a personal best and I will print it....if not I will have to start telling you about Helice and how it is the best shooting discipline and then you will be sorry.....so..... stop me, by sending me info.
P.S. Keep selling those raffle tickets....it is not far from the draw now!!
