Berkshire News - Nicola Heron.Absolutely Fantastic News...Trap Shooter Stephen Halfacre makes it 5 One of Berkshire's trap shooting heroes, Stephen Halfacre has won an amazing 5th cap for the England ABT team. He will go with the team to the Home International which this year will be held in Ireland in September. We will let you know how they get on in the next issue. All the very best Stephen. The Berkshire Sportrap Championship was held on the 15th of July at Podimore Shooting ground. It was a grey and over cast day with the odd shower and only twelve Berkshire shooters ventured all that way to take part. Both Chris Childerhouse and Rick Wyatt ended up tied on a great score of 93. But it did not finish there. After a twenty five bird shoot off, Chris finally emerged as the new Berkshire Champion, taking gold after shooting a twenty five straight. Rick's score of twenty two gave him Silver, leaving the Bronze to Steve Hamblin on 88. The Veterans title went to Eric Davies on 76 and the Ladies title to Nicola Gryspeerdt on 75. Other Berkshire shooters there were C Miles (84), P Dowsett (82), A Miles (81), B Claridge (79), P Tibbetts (72), R Miles (70) and G Rolls (69). Thanks to Paul and his staff at Podimore for hosting the event. The Inter-counties Helice held at Invicta gun club on the 29th of July saw Berkshire join the SE dominated Helice teams. It was the first time that Berkshire has ever managed to raise a Helice team and it did not really go according to plan!!!! OK let's get this over with fast......'I apologise for my performance which could only be described as lamentable considering that this is my main discipline and I will be embarrassed for ever for letting everyone down with such a rubbish score'. That is also for the committee who thought it was extremely funny. Berkshire's Helice reputation was saved however by 'him indoors' who was true to form and won the South East Veterans Title on 12/15. Berkshire ended up 5th, a mere 11 points behind Kent who won on 49/60. (I know, I know it's all my fault) all I can say is 'watch out Kent next year'! A big thank you goes to the rest of our team who shot brilliantly and whooped me. Warren Ody and Ted Waite, who both shot some very difficult birds, are now looking forward to the Berkshire Championship coming up at A1 Shooting Ground. Also big thanks to our Lady, Rachel Harding, who struggled through with a damaged knee and constant pain, but stayed the course all day. Remember all you Berkshire shooters who said they were going to try this discipline at A1 before the Berkshire Championships on the 6th of October, time is running out, there are not that many Wednesday's left. Rachel and Ted have been back and shot it again.....so when are you coming? International Helice News. The Spanish Grand Prix and another leg of the World Cup were held on the top of a windy hill in Valencia early August, with heat that a sauna would be proud of (35 degrees in the shade). This time Dionne and I dumped the boys and travelled to a ropey hotel whose only good point was that it was only 2km from the ground. This was greatly appreciated on the night that the shooting did not finish until 9pm. Tough shoot, very wind affected......but Brit's on top after shoot off's. Ladies results were Kent Gold........Berkshire Bronze.....! Double Trap - Keith Kilvington. The Berkshire Double Trap was held at the NCSC on Saturday 18th August. There were 7 shooters from Berkshire who turned up to shoot this new Berkshire Championship. Mark Rees was the specialist out of the seven as he is a member of the Army Double Trap team, it was a request from Mark to the Committee earlier on in the year which made us think of holding this event. He was to prove to be the one to beat after he shot a personal best of 133 (44, 45, 44.). The runner up was Keith Kilvington on 120, with Ken Harman just getting the better of Eric Davis on the last round to take the Veterans title with 113. Well done to Mark and all the other competitors for attending and thank you to Sandie for presenting the prizes. South East UT Inter-counties - Keith Kilvington Sunday 19th August and it was a trip to Nuthampstead Shooting Ground for the SE Inter-counties UT. The team was Keith Kilvington, Ken Harman, Stephen Halfacre, Carl Miles and Chris Ricketts. Eric Davis was the Veteran, Karen Ricketts the Lady and Simon Clarke the Junior. An overcast day greeted us but it didn’t stop some high scoring from the competitors from across the region. Berkshire came a credible 4th overall on 442 only 15 points adrift of the winners Hertfordshire on 457. Well done to all who were there and congratulations and commiserations to Simon Clarke who had his 16th birthday on the day, which unfortunately meant he was now in the Junior category so he didn’t get his hands on the Colt prize…..one day earlier and it would have been his!!!!! Thanks once again to the “great one” Sandie, for a well run event and also to all the staff at Nuthampstead. Well done to Tony Manvell for winning the first ever FITASC sporting event held at Four Counties Gun Club with an amazing 99/100. Tony now tells the story of how Brian & Sue Claridge who own the club, decided to introduce at their ground, a FITASC sporting shoot run on new System using three pegs over two courses for the morning, then changing for the afternoon rotation. It went like clockwork! Eight squads booked in including a "hardcore of Fitasc Shooters" but for many it was their first look at this discipline. They did a great job and where they scored major points was by not having too hard a shoot, they used the terrain to its maximum, going in and out of the wooded area, with a nice mix of targets, soft, medium and then those needing a lot of care. The refereeing was done by the squads which meant that newcomers did not feel uncomfortable but learned the ropes as they went along. Andy Bailey came out of retirement with a good score of 95 to win A class, Rick Wyatt 2nd with 93. Tom Hicks won B class with 94, Andy Shore and Graham Ferguson 2nd with 93's. C class was won by Adrian Miles, 2nd Terry Herbert with 90 and D Class was won by Tony Best 83 and Andrew Johnson was 2nd with 81. There were 9 complete rookies who all reckoned it was a good discipline and that they would go again. So very well done to all involved. We are "desperate" for more in this area, so please do it again!! Finally please do not forget that Four Counties are holding a special event on 14/10/07 starting at10am and finishing at 1.30pm. It is open to anyone who wants to try shooting and has not had the chance to do so before, Mums, Dads, Nan's and Gramps. We also have a .410 for youngsters to come and have a go but only if they are big enough. So if you live near Newbury and you have friends who would like to try this sport, then please bring them along. The cost will be £5 for 10 birds, including use of gun, ammo, ear & eye protection and instruction from qualified CPSA instructors. |
