Berkshire News - Nicola Heron. For all you vocal teckies out there 'Google Group' comes to Berkshire. See the Berkshire web page and click on the group 'To have your say'. Anything you wish to air about shooting, CPSA etc. Come on ...I dare you.......I can't wait to hear your views. Four Counties CTC are holding special shooting day on 14/10/07 starting at 10am, where you can bring friends and family along to try shooting for the first time. So if you have friends who have said in the past 'I wish I could try shooting but I have never done anything about it', or if you are the mum that 'carts' the junior around to the shoots and has always had a secret desire on the way home that she could do better, or if you are the long suffering wife who has to listen every week to the 'I nearly won' stories on the Sunday night thinking, 'all this fuss, I bet I could win quicker than you if I put my mind to it'......then put this date in your diary and either come along or bring them along to try for themselves. Details available from Four Counties CTC and in next months Berkshire report. Now I have to warn you that Keith Kilvington is going to appear several times in this issue as he is on a roll. Not only is he a hard working member of the Berkshire Committee and responsible for a lot of the fund-raising and the badgering of companies to give us sponsored prizes and trophies but he is also a 'bloody good shot'. The Bisley Grand Prix on 12/13th of May saw Keith in action in the Olympic Trap and the weather was not the best it could have been. Keith finished in silver position on 139+1, just 1 point behind Carl Exton who took the gold on 139+2. We then move on to The English Open Olympic trap was held at Nuthampstead Shooting Ground on 3rd/4th June where Keith shot 95/100 on the first day and 93/100 on the second day to find himself tied for 1st place with the lovely Kevin Gill and David Beatie. After an exciting 25 bird single barrel flash final, Kevin won with 188+22 and Keith, just pipped at the post, won silver with 188+21. David got bronze with 188+20. The NCSC was the venue for the Berkshire OT Championships on 1/7/07. This was a great event which saw Ken Harman win the Berkshire Championship. Eric Davis the won the veterans, I won the ladies and Simon Clarke won the Juniors. A big thank you goes out to Tower Leasing, Stephen Halfacre, Keith Kilvington and the Berks Committee who sponsored the new silver perpetual trophies for the classes. They were won by Keith Kilvington (A Class), Ross Pottinger (B Class), Warren Ody (C Class) and Chris Ricketts (D Class). The prize draw was done immediately after the shooting and the winners names are listed on the Berkshire website. The All Round County Championship. Fareham CTC kindly hosted the Berkshire All Round Championship on 7/7/07 and made us most welcome. I was fed up that I could not go (due to shooting a selection shoot) because this is a great club and always friendly. On a near perfect day with sunshine and a light breeze, the event started with 25 testing English Sporting targets. Adrian Miles was determined and started well with a high score of 20. He won the Championship with a total of 88 ex 100, only two targets in front of runner up Ross Pottinger who was giving him a run for his money. Eric Davis took the Veteran's trophy with 83 ex 100, he was also the only member with a perfect round scoring 25 English Skeet. Well done Eric. Attendance was disappointing with only ten entries and no ladies, juniors or colts. The English Open Double Trap at NCSC on 8/7/07 Mark Rees Won C class and had a personal best. Our very own Berkshire shooter Mark Rees is an Army Physical Training Corps Instructor who shoots for the British Army CT Team. He started shooting 5 years ago and it was not long before he was selected to shoot Sporting for the British Army Team. When the funding was withdrawn he looked to the Olympic disciplines. Not one for any easy life he went for Double Trap. In the EO he finished 9th overall, winning C Class with a 42(B), 45(C) 40(A) and a final score 127/150. This was a personal best for Mark who only took up Double Trap at the start of February 2007. The Army DT 5 man Team consists of our own Mark Rees, Jamie Holmes, Chris Boakes (very nice man on my squad), Andy Robbins and Glenn Thompson. They have had a great deal of help and support from Martin Barker at Nuthampstead Shooting Ground, who is currently the Army Team DT Coach. Andy Robbins did not shoot at the English Open, but I bet he wished he had done because the Army shooters all achieved a personal best. Well done to them and Martin for such good results. The Double Trap Veterans was won by Berkshire's Michael Vere-Hodge....but he was in 'a class of his own'...literally. Keith Kilvington a glutton for punishment was at it again at The UK Championships which were held at Southern Counties on 7th/8th July. He shot 94/100 on the first day and 94/100 on the second day putting him in 5th place and into another exciting 25 bird single barrel flash final. At the end he was tied for 3rd place on 188+21 with Adam Gutteridge on 193+16. A sudden death shoot off was needed which Keith won after Adam missed his third. This gave Keith the Bronze with David Beatie getting Silver and Kevin Gill the Gold. Not to be left out the Berkshire sporting shooters put in a great effort at the Beretta World Championships. Rick Wyatt led the way amongst the Berkshire entry with 107 followed by Adrian Miles on 101, Chris Childerhouse on 97 and Carl Miles on 95. This was fantastic shooting with them beating several top shooters along the way.....Well done lads. (Ever thought of trying Helice?) SE Inter-counties Double Trap 15/7/07 NCSC This was a great day out for Berkshire's newly formed Double Trap team consisting of Ken Harman, Mark Rees, Warren Ody, Nicola Heron, Willy Scott and Michael Vere-Hodge. Ken Harman led the team to an amazing 4th place. I say amazing because we only had one real DT shooter....Mark Rees, who again won C Class. Ken, who it seems can shoot everything, scooped the Veteran Champions badge and Michael was 2nd in the Veterans. I won the ladies but that was only because Rachel Parish, who shot a fantastic 137/150 coming 2nd overall, shot in her class instead of the ladies. Awesome shooting Rachel...out of 61 shooters 59 could not beat 'the girl', it is a shame they have taken DT away from the ladies. (And yes.........I have bent her ear about the joys of Helice!). Well shot DT team and thanks for turning out for this difficult discipline. (And another YES.......him indoors did beat me by a massive 8 points so I was forced to wear my ear plugs all the way home and most of the next day!!) Other Berkshire Inter-counties news. The Olympic Skeet team had a great result making 2nd place. Well done Ken Harman for winning the SE Veterans title. Thanks also to the other members of the team, Willy Scott, Les Johnstone, Neil Broomhead and Sean O'Shea. The English Skeet saw Berkshire in 3rd place and a fantastic result for the lovely Ross Pottinger who got into the shoot off after doing a 100 straight. Thanks also to the rest of the team Tony May, Andrew Halfacre, Andy Seaman, Steve Cross, Nicola Gryspeerdt and Michael Claessens. The Sporting at Southdown saw Berkshire come 4th with a team made up of Chris Childerhouse, Rick Wyatt, John Rideout, Adrian Miles, Albert and Tim Bovingdon, Pam Tibbatts, Adam Russell and Brian Reddeck.
