The Berkshire FITASC Sporting County Championship was held at Wylye Valley on 23rd of September the new Berkshire County Champion was Adrian Miles on 86 two points ahead of R Wyatt on 84 with P Morgan on 83. The ladies County Champion was Rachel Harding with a well deserved 76. The Veteran Champion was B Willis on 64. Sadly there was neither Junior nor Colt entries despite the prizes raised for them this year. There where 14 Berkshire entries in total. Remember Mark Marshall and how we were not aware of him being a Berkshire shooter well we now have more information to tell you about him. Mark shot the British Open Sporting on the first day in very bad weather conditions, managing a 93. He was convinced it would be beaten over the next three days of shooting with 1,100 entries still to shoot. Amazingly even though it was closely contended with some scores of 92, his score held out to give him this great win. What a fantastic achievement for Mark who is a fulltime shooting instructor at The West London Shooting School in Northolt. He has been shooting many years so what took him so long! Mark said that he has only been able to take his competing really seriously over the last few years, as he is now able to compete abroad more regularly. This year Mark led the field at the English Open Sporting on day one, in similar weather conditions to the British and finished first in AAA. He also won the British FITASC Grand Prix at Southern Counties. Mark has set his sights on trying this year to get onto the Great Britain FITASC team for 2008. In August he disappeared to shoot the French National FITASC Championships and set a French record by shooting 99 ex 100 out the first day of a 200 bird competition. That got them all worried! After shooting 200 he finished second overall by one target and won the Overseas title. Well done Mark, please keep us informed of your competitions next season. Well done to Nobby Rolls a Berkshire shooter who won C Class at the ENGLISH SKEET DOUBLES. Nobby that is all I know so please let us know how you get on next season will you? Carl (Straight and Steady) Miles had a good UT win at Newnham Park on the 28th of October when the weather was awful with wind and rain all day. He missed three targets out of his first eight (silly boy) and then went to town dropping only one more over the remaining 75. He was joint High Gun with Dennis Stepney on 96. Well done Carl. Keeping it in the family brother Adrian Miles became the Berkshire Helice Championship on the 6th of October when A1 Shooting Ground played host to our county championships. It was a great day. Unbelievably Ady won with a straight on the first time he had ever shot Helice. He is now concentrating on the inter-counties team for next year (the one I still can not think about without feeling ill or having a shiver). After being chased all the way by Rachel Harding I became Ladies Champion (thank goodness or I would have to retire). I hope Rachel takes this up properly next season as she certainly does shoot this discipline well. The Veterans title went to Michael Vere-Hodge who under CPSA rules became a vet for the day (normally it is 65). We had a glorious 10 entries who all said they would be back again. Thanks to A1 who always do a great job. We were delighted to hear that Ady also had a ''50 straight'' at home recently, as his lovely wife is expecting again. Well done and good luck to you both. The have a go day at Four Counties was a great success with over 50 people turning up. Several of these people who were new to shooting and who tried their hand at the sport have returned to book lessons. Thank you to Brian and Sue for making this possible and to Dawn and Steve Smith for giving their valuable coaching time. The Berkshire Committee are asking people who wish to be on an inter-counties team next year to put their names and contact details forward to me as soon as possible. We have said many times in these pages that the Committee does not have details of the people in the county and that we are trying to build up lists of the shooters who want to compete. If you do not give me your name then you cannot really blame me if you are not asked to shoot, because we just do not know who YOU are. Some people made it hard to deal with teams this year due to the 'I'm not shooting on the team if he is on the team'' scenario. For goodness sake, I was quite shocked to hear this and you out there know who you are.........I see it as an honor to represent the County....so if you do too, please let me have your details......we need you more than you need us....honest. Ok all those out there who want to get VOCAL now is your chance, as it is AGM time again.....Yippee I hear you all call at once. Well it is happening on Wednesday 16th January 2008 at the Royal County of Berkshire Sports & Social Club, Sonning Lane, Reading RG4 6ST.......yes, the same venue as last year. Kick off is at 7.30 and there is a buffet too ....ooooh! So be there or be square! Finally some overseas news.....The Helice World Championships saw one of our Ladies miss shoot off for the individual Silver / Bronze medal by one point ending up 4th. Damn and Drat.....! However the same Berkshire lady was also part of the GB ladies team and the three of them just happen to win. This was the first time that the GB Helice ladies have ever taken a World Ladies Team Gold. This was fantastic for Berkshire as a County because Berkshire scored the winning shot. Hurrah! |
