Berkshire Report-Nicola Heron
The NCSC provided glorious weather for the UT Berkshire County Championships, held on 10th May, and with 31 entries it proved to be a very enjoyable event. The podium places went to the usual suspects, who all shot magnificent scores in the high 90's. The High Gun was Keith Kilvington on an impressive 98, though he still managed to make excuses for the 2 that got away, followed by Carl Miles with a 95. Eric Davis the Veteran Champion, and Stephen Halfacre were on 94 and the new name on the ladies trophy is Rachel Harding. There were five 25 straights from Berkshire shooters, with very few scores dipping into the teens. Of course as we expected......50 straights from Stephen Halfacre and Keith Kilvington. Carl Miles set himself a personal challenge of 94 which he achieved with one to spare - an excellent result considering he gave himself the extra pressure by missing the first bird out, but went on to score a 24! This was top class shooting from the Berkshire entrants giving the other counties in the South East region something else to worry about. With this performance we can look forward to the SE Inter Counties UT at Nuthampstead on 17th August.
The 2008 Berkshire Olympic Skeet Championship was held at the NCSC on Sunday 25th May and there were only 8 Berkshire members who were prepared to take up the challenge of this difficult discipline Andy Pye and Junior Leslie Johnstone quickly posted 23's and took the early lead in the 1st round and Andy's son Ben was 3rd with a 21. This was good shooting in difficult light conditions. Andy continued his dominance of this Championship posting 47/50 in the last 2 rounds to take the win with 93/100. Leslie managed to finish on 89 to take the Junior title and runner up. Ben finished with 84 to be the Junior Silver medallist. Sean O'Shea finished 4th overall and took the Veterans title with 82. Rachael Harding was Ladies Champion with 53 and well done to Mark Howland who finished in 5th place in his first Berkshire County Championship.
A further congratulation is in order for Andy Pye who was also the runner up in the OSK selection shoot at East Yorkshire gun club after a very difficult shoot off.
Pet Easton is on top of the world and cannot believe her luck. Not only did she qualify again this year for the Mitsubishi but she won a Mitsubishi Colt car in the raffle. What luck! We are hoping to get a fuller report for the Berkshire website where you can catch up on the fantastic achievements of the Berkshire shooters as this space is just not big enough for our county. You can read 'in full' all the competition reports, see all the pictures taken at each event, hear about the shooting events in the county and also read the international reports as they come in. It is a ''must'' for Berkshire shooters. |
